St. Georges debuts, Gautraut scores late penalty as Chicago draws even 1-1 with Washington

CHICAGO, Ill. (June 19th, 2021) - Morgan Gautrat scores a late penalty in stoppage time as the Chicago Red Stars finish the game level 1-1 against the Washington Spirit on Juneteenth (Saturday, June 19th).
60’ - Alyssa Naeher makes a diving save to knock Washington’s Ashley Sanchez’s out of play, keeping the game scoreless
64’ - Bianca St. Georges makes her first appearance for the Red Stars, subbing in for Kayla Sharples
82’ - Mallory Pugh’s drives inside the box from the right flank, but her shot hits the crossbar and goes out of play
85’ - Washington’s Trinity Rodman scores a 1v1 attempt against Alyssa Naeher, putting the Spirit up by one
90+2’ - Morgan Gautrat takes the penalty kick and scores from the spot to bring the game level
Sarah Gorden led all Red Stars players with 73 touches throughout the game, playing a crucial role on both the defensive and offensive sides of the pitch. She finished with 45 total passes – 22 of them coming on the opposition’s side of the field. Defensively, Gorden contributed an interception and a tackle each, as well as seven total duels.
The week of firsts continued for Bianca St. Georges Saturday night. After making her Canada Women’s National Team debut earlier this week, St. Georges made her 2021 Red Stars debut after coming on in the 64th minute. She contributed 22 touches throughout the game and finished with 15 total passes and an interception defensively.
Morgan Gautrat not only scored the game-tying goal in stoppage time, but also continued her string of impressive performances in Chicago’s midfield. She led the team with 27 passes in the opposing half (46 total passes), a passing accuracy of 76.1%, 65 touches, and tied for the team lead with three tackles defensively
