Six Chicago Red Stars Called Up to U.S. WNT Camp

Davidson, Gautrat, Gorden, Naeher, Short, and Watt will join the October camp

CHICAGO (October 8, 2020) — The U.S. Women’s National Team announced their roster for the upcoming training camp on October 18-28. Chicago’s Tierna Davidson, Morgan Gautrat, Sarah Gorden, Alyssa Naeher, Casey Short, and Kealia Watt have been selected for the roster.

Davidson made her U.S. WNT debut in 2018. At 20 years old, Davidson was the youngest member of the winning 2019 FIFA World Cup squad. She has made 16 appearances for the Red Stars since being selected first overall by Chicago in the 2019 NWSL College Draft.

Gautrat is no stranger to the National Team, earning her first cap in 2013. She is a two-time World Cup Champion, winning both the 2015 & 2019 tournaments. Gautrat has made 29 appearances for the Red Stars since joining the team in 2017, including all three games in the 2020 Fall Series.

Gorden has been a member of the Red Stars her entire professional career. Since her professional debut in 2016, Gorden has made 55 appearances for the club, including eight in 2020. This will be Gorden’s second National Team call-up after earning her first in December of 2019.

Like Gautrat, Naeher is a two-time FIFA World Cup Champion, earning the starting goalkeeper spot for the U.S. WNT at the 2019 tournament. She has over 100 NWSL appearances and ranks second amongst goalkeepers for most league appearances all-time. Naeher has made nine appearances for the Red Stars in 2020 with two clean sheets.

In 2019, Short became the first player in NWSL history to earn a spot in every edition of the league’s Team of the Month squad and continued her stellar play for Chicago in 2020. She made four appearances for the Red Stars in the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup and scored the game-winning goal for Chicago against the Utah Royals in the team’s final group stage game. Short was named to the tournament’s Best XI for her outstanding performances.

Watt joined Chicago at the beginning of 2020 via trade. She has made nine appearances for Chicago this year and spearheaded the attack in both the Challenge Cup and Fall Series. Over the past three games, Watt has two goals and two assists for Chicago. Watt has past experience with the U.S. WNT at both the youth and senior levels. She and Gautrat were members of the U-20 World Cup team in 2012 and scored the game-winning goal in the final to lead the team to a U-20 World Cup victory. She would go on to make her senior squad debut in 2016.

With six players, Chicago has the most players out of any NWSL team at the training camp. The Red Stars will wrap up the Fall Series this Saturday against Sky Blue FC at 11:30am CT live on CBS All-Access.
