Mautz, Stanton, St.Georges start as Chicago loses 2-0 to OL Reign

CHICAGO, Ill. (June 22, 2021) - The Red Stars welcomed Alyssa Mautz, Nikki Stanton, and Bianca St. Georges back to the starting XI but would fall to OL Reign 2-0 on Tuesday, June 22nd.


1’ - OL Reign’s Shirley Cruz’s shot from outside the box finds the top right corner of the net to give her team the early lead.

18’ - Bethany Balcer heads the ball past Alyssa Naeher to give Reign a 2-0 lead.

85’ - Naeher makes the diving stop with her feet to prevent Eugénie Le Sommer from scoring in her NWSL debut.


  • After returning to the pitch on June 5th for the first time since suffering a torn ACL injury, Alyssa Mautz started her first game for the Red Stars since the 2019 NWSL season Tuesday night. Mautz concluded her re-entry into the Starting XI with 31 touches, 22 passes, and three tackles before being subbed off in the 62nd minute.

  • Nikki Stanton also made her return to the Red Stars starting XI, having played overseas during the 2020 season. Stanton played the full game for Chicago and totaled 45 touches, a team-high 14 duels, three tackles, two interceptions, and added a clearance to close out her night.

  • Three days after returning to the pitch for the Red Stars as a substitute in their Juneteenth matchup against Washington, Bianca St. Georges returned to Chicago’s starting XI having last appeared this past year. Despite being sent off in stoppage time after being shown her second yellow card of the game, St. Georges accumulated three clearances, two interceptions, a tackle, 21 passes, and tied for second on the team for touches with 50.
