DiBernardo and Watt tally 10,000 NWSL minutes as Chicago defeats OL Reign 3-1

CHICAGO, Ill. (July 18, 2021) - Vanessa DiBernardo and Kealia Watt both celebrated league milestones as the Chicago Red Stars defeated the OL Reign at home Sunday, July 18.



KEY MOMENTS


3’ Vanessa DiBernardo reached the 10,000th minute mark in her NWSL career, making her the sixth player all-time to accomplish the feat for one team and the first Red Stars player to do so.


12’ Bethany Balcer for OL Reign finds the back of the net to put the Reign up by one.


42’ Kealia Watt reached the 10,000th minute mark for her NWSL career. 48’ Reign’s Celia Jimenez hits the ball into Chicago’s net to tie the game off of an own goal. 55’ Alana Cook from OL Reign accidentally hits the ball past her own keeper from a Red Stars corner to give the Red Stars a 2-1 lead. 64’ Mallory Pugh receives the pass from Kealia Watt and fires it past OL Reign’s Bouhaddi to give the Red Stars a 3-1 lead.


82’ OL Reign forward, and former Red Star, Sofia Huerta tallied her 10,000th career minute for her NWSL career.


GAME NOTES

  • Vanessa DiBernardo made the most of her milestone day by playing an integral role in the Red Stars’ midfield. She finished the game with 57 touches, 15 duels, four tackles (team lead), five interceptions (team lead), 35 passes and a passing percentage of 71.4%

  • Mallory Pugh’s evening of constantly pressuring the OL Reign backline paid off with her second half goal in the 64th minute. Pugh would also finish the game with two shots, two registered key passes, 30 passes, a tackle, 50 touches, six duels, and the team lead in crosses with five. Sunday’s game was also Pugh’s 50th NWSL game

  • Kealia Watt also had a milestone day with her 10,000th minute accomplishment as well as being a force on the offensive side of the ball. Watt finished with a shot, an assist on the Mallory Pugh goal, 44 touches, 22 passes, three tackles and an interception
